Analysis Of The Poem Pentagram - 1593 Words

Pentagram The simple definition of the term pentagram is a five-pointed star whose arms are equal length that is drawn with a continuous line. Throughout history, this symbol has been used by religions and has many different meanings. The Pentagram can be traced back to carvings on stone walls in ancient Mesopotamia, dating these carvings leads us back to 3500 BC. Many cultures use the symbol for various things. It is a sign of royalty, representing power sent to the four corners of the earth; it was a sign of protection, it was the â€Å"Endless Knot† and was a symbol for Truth; knights painted it on their shields, a reminder of the five virtues they were to follow; Christianity claimed it represented the five wounds of Christ; it†¦show more content†¦For me, this means a lot. As well as teaching a young girl about the craft, often referred to as my grand Witchling, I am guiding my partner on the path to being Wiccan. Knowing the correlation to the horned God gives me another way to tap into those energies and helps me teach him to focus in the divine masculine with the use of symbols. In Modern Pagan/Wiccan practices the symbol is often used interchangeably with pentacle, though there is a difference. The pentagram has no circle surrounding it and is composed of a single line. It symbolizes the four quarters or directions, the four elements, the four seasons, and at the top point is spirit, the fifth element from which all others come. Satanists use this symbol, surrounded by a circle or not, upside down to represent their relationship with Satan. They have taken our sacred symbol and twisted it to mean the opposite of what we think and teach. In our modern age, with the extremes Satanists have gone to so they are noticed and make an impact on society, the pentagram with the point down represents evil. To most, it means a covenant with the devil and all that is unholy and against Christianity.
